NEI bags order from Brenco

Mumbai: National Engineering Industries (NEI), a GP-CK Birla group company, has announced that it has bagged an export order worth Rs 4 crore from a US major, Brenco.

A technical partner of NEI, Brenco will outsource 7,000 units of 6X11 cartridge taper roller bearing (CTRB) from NEI by January 2004. This export order has laid the foundation for future business opportunities between NEI and Brenco. NEI company officials are confident that the business potential of this deal will increase to Rs 15 crore within a year.

Says NEI president B G Mundra: "Our international quality products and our strong customer focus have already placed us in a strong position in the domestic market. Now, this order from a US major is a testimonial of our technological competitiveness. We hope to continue with our winning stride and further increase our customer base in South Asia and US markets. In the coming fiscal, we plan to export our products to Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh."

In acknowledgement of the company''s excellent quality management systems, NEI recently became the first bearing company in India to receive the BVQI certification in compliance with TS 16949:2002. NEI has also been awarded an ISO 14001 certificate by BVQI for environment.

Original equipment (OE) customers comprise 70 per cent of NEI''s sales, while the rest is to the replacement market. About 20 per cent of the sales are a result of the development of new bearing sizes, which are developed at its own R&D centre. The company uses latest CAD-CAM facility and installation of various life-testing equipment for manufacturing its products.

Besides Brenco, NEI has a technical collaboration with the world-renowned NTN Corporation of Japan. Nearly 30-million bearings per year are manufactured by NEI in over 500 different sizes ranging from 6mm bore to 2,000mm outer diameter. It holds the second position in the domestic bearings industry with a market share of 20 per cent.
