NCR introduces India's first 'no envelope' multi-function ATM news
16 September 2009

NCR Corporation has unveiled its next-generation NCR SelfServ 32 automatic teller machine (ATM). This ATM is India's first 'no envelope' multi-function intelligent deposit ATM.

With dedicated intelligent cash deposit and recycling functionality, the ATM helps financial institutions to reduce operating costs, improve customer service and increases revenue generation opportunities.

NCR SelfServ 32 is scalable to offer bulk cheque deposit that helps faster clearance and instant deposit at the ATM. This solution is in sync with Reserve Bank of India's current initiative of getting banks technology ready to offer cheque truncation. Besides intelligent cash deposit and recycling, the ATM allows an array of revenue generation opportunities for banks such as bill payments, funds transfer and remittance, mobile phone top-up, and couponing.

The other multi-channel self-service banking solutions introduced included NCR APTRATM eMarketing and APTRA Connections software that allow banks to better serve their customers across point-of-service, mobile and online channels.

A recent study conducted on behalf of NCR Corporation indicates that 97 per cent of Indian respondents are more likely to do business with companies that provide multichannel self-service. 81 per cent or respondents have increased their likelihood to use self-service in the past year. Significantly, 80 percent of survey respondents from India say that the availability of self-service technologies creates a more positive perception of the deployer's brands.

Pradeep Sen, NCR, managing director for India, says, "Clearly, consumers want self-service banking to be convenient, easy to use, secure and always available when and where they want. As consumers do more through the ATM channel, it becomes imperative for financial institutions to ensure their ATM network is constantly up and running.''

Through a higher note capacity, the new NCR SelfServ ATMs minimise cash-in-transit visits. The ATMs offer a diverse range of intelligent 'no envelope' cash deposit and recycling options, including deposit and validation of up to 200 notes per transaction and up to four dispense/recycle cassettes with a total capacity of over 9,000 notes - thereby ensuring higher availability at all times. The ATM is scalable to offer intelligent 'no envelope' cheque deposits - up to 30 cheques in a single bunch.

As part of the NCR SelfServ family of next-generation ATMs, the units are equipped with ''self-healing'' technology to automatically recover from software failures and downtime without intervention, cutting down recovery time previously ranging from three to four hours to 10 to 15 minutes.

Built for enhanced availability, the ATMs feature intuitive graphic operator panels with simple lead-through and service access from the front, rear and side to simplify routine maintenance tasks and maximise up-time. Firmware updates and software upgrades can also be downloaded to the ATM automatically.

NCR SelfServ units are available with NCR's patented two-sided thermal (2ST) receipt printers that can reduce ATM receipt paper consumption by up to 45 percent. Its dual receipt roll dispensers include auto-change functionality and hold larger paper rolls.

The ATMs utilise LED lighting, 25 per cent less cabling and NCR's patented 2ST printers to minimise power consumption, carbon footprint and paper waste, helping financial institutions to address sustainability and reduce environmental impact.
