Moser Baer sponsors DVD+RW Alliance event

Moser Baer India Ltd hosted the first ever seminar of DVD+RW Alliance Group in India under the aegis of Nasscom on December 15, 2005.

The seminar aimed at spreading awareness about the new set of technologies involved in DV Recording, to establish DVD+RW/+R as a format of choice through promotion and to establish compatibility of DVD+RW/+R related hardware and media products. Till now, DVD+RW alliance events have been organised only in the US, Europe and Japan. In view of the emerging importance of Indian optical storage media industry and the fast track market growth, the DVD+RW Alliance board chose India as a location for this event.

The seminar was inaugurated by Kiran Karnik, president, Nasscom. Special events were conducted by

  • Jun Ishihara and Shigeru Tamura from Mitsubishi Kagaku Media,
  • Dr Paul Weijenbergh and Dr Peter Bentvelsen from Phillips
  • Masashi Mizuta, Dr Toru Takeda, Hironobu Harima and Hideo Owa from Sony
  • Hideaki Oba from Ricoh
  • M Kobayashi from MBI

The seminar followed with discussions on wide range of relevant topics in the field that included DVD format comparison, benefits of using +R/RW, speeds of DVD drive and DVD+RW, playability of DVD+R/RW on legacy DVD drives and players and mechanisms of recording in +R/RW formats.

Moser Baer India is an active member of various forums related to optical discs which are involved in future high-density storage media like DVD+RW Alliance. It is also one of a contributing member of Blu Ray disc Association.

"An event like this offers an opportunity to develop a knowledge curve about newest technologies and explore better compatibility tools for recording DVD and understanding of third generation DVD formats. The Indian market is ready for penetration and Moser Baer is ready with all the optical media storage solutions," said Deepak Puri, chairman and managing director, Moser Baer India.
