Mumbai: India's leading car maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) is all set to roll out its new hatchback car, A-Star, by mid November in the domestic market. The car would be exported to the European markets.

A-Star, which made its debut at the Auto Expo in New Delhi in January 2008, is a five-door hatchback, powered by a 1-litre K-series petrol engine developed in-house by Suzuki engineers.  (See: Maruti Suzuki makes a splash with three concept cars at Auto expo

A-Starhas been priced around Rs4 lakh (ex-showroom) and will be introduced in three variants. Maruti says that the car will also be marketed by Nissan under the brand name, Pixo, in West Asia and European markets, which will make the A-Star the first car model to be manufactured in India for two separate car companies, Suzuki and Nissan.

The car will comply to BS-III emission norms and will have an engine capacity of 996cc. The car will compete in the premium A2 segment with rival car models like Hyundai i10, Tata Indigo CS, Swift among others.

A-Star joins the list of other Maruti models such as Swift, Sx4 and Grand Vitara that the company had launched in India.
