L&T secures Rs1,000-crore ONGC order

Oil And Gas Corporation (ONGC) has awarded a Rs1,000-crore turnkey project order to the L&T for four oil well platforms and inter-connecting pipelines for Mumbai High North and Bassein oil fields.

Three of these platforms, with six wells each, will be of the latest tripod design, to be engineered by the L&T''s upstream joint venture engineering company. The company - Valdel, haws been formed in association with thje US-based Worlex Parsons.

The fourth platform with nine wells, will be designed to handle corrosive ''sour'' gas from ONGC''s Bassein field. It will be constructed of special material like duplex stainless steel and incolloy cladded material for the topsides and pipeline.

All critical structures for the project will be delivered from L&T''s modular fabrication facility at Hazira, which is being expanded to meet the increased demand from ONGC and overseas clients.

This is the engineering giant''s second major order from ONGC. In February 2004, it had been awarded a turnkey project valued at Rs1,006 crore by ONGC for nine new wellhead platforms, along with single point responsibility for the complete engineering procurement, fabrication and installation of the platforms, five of which were delivered in April, this year, with the delivery for the remaining four scheduled to be delivered by February 28, 2006 . L&T will also deliver around 30,000 tonnes of topsides and jackets for the project.
