IBM ThinkPad offers automatic hard drive protection technology

Mumbai: IBM India has announced a completely updated line of ThinkPad notebook computers — ThinkPad R50 and T41 models.

The new notebooks feature the world''s first automatic hard drive protection technology called IBM Active Protection System, which is designed to prevent hard drive crashes and data loss. These notebooks will be ideal for any business organisation, from large enterprises like manufacturing and distribution companies, financial organisations to small and medium businesses, government, and educational institutions.

The new notebooks also feature IBM ThinkVantage Technologies, a set of software and hardware features, which come bundled with all IBM PCs and notebooks. These are designed to help customers manage cost of deploying end-user systems, implement new technologies such as wireless computing and ensure that these technologies can be implemented securely.

IBM developed this patent-pending hard drive protection technology to help protect people''s data because smaller, lighter, and more mobile systems are at a continual risk of being dropped and damaged. The IBM Active Protection System uses a microchip to detect system movements (such as in a fall) and stops the hard disk temporarily to prevent any data loss, which helps reduce warranty costs.
