Delhi: Coca-Cola India continues to contribute to
the immediate relief and rehabilitation activities for
the tsunami victims by providing drinking water, food
packets, clothes and vehicles to ferry casualties besides
helping the district administration in setting up relief
camps to shelter the affected.
Coca-Cola
India president and CEO, Sanjiv Gupta handed over a cheque
of Rs50 lakh to Sonia Gandhi, chairperson Rajiv Gandhi
Foundation and also presented a cheque of Rs2 crore to
the prime minister Manmohan Singh for the prime minister''s
relief fund earlier this week.
Moreover
the company has also contributed Rs1 Crore to the Indian
Red Cross Society. Eaarlier, ythe company had donated
Rs50 lakh and Rs30 lakh to the Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pardesh
chief minister''s relief funds respectively. According
to a press release, the company has earmarked over Rs5
crore to support various relief and rehabilitation measures
in tsunami hit areas, across the country. It has also
contributions to relief funds in Kerala and the Andaman
& Nicobar.
Says
Gupta, "The real impact of the damage caused by the
tsunami is only now beginning to emerge and the company
intends to continue working with state governments, NGO''s
and other rehabilitation agencies to strengthen the rehabilitation
efforts for as long as they are required."
Gupta
also disclosed that in affected places across the tsunami-hit
region, "Our local business units and system employees
have acted swiftly to support essential aid efforts and
on-the-ground needs. Our colleagues have been working
with emergency relief teams, local and international aid
agencies including the Red Cross, Governmental authorities
and NGOs."
In addition,Coca-Cola is also supporting rehabilitation
measures through NGOs such as the Indian Red Cross, Rajiv
Gandhi Foundation,
Save the Children Foundation and its partner NGOs, Charity
Aid Foundation, and CARE, through its associate NGOs.
