Bharti ties up with Vodafone for services in Channel Islands

Mumbai: Bharti Airtel, India's biggest private telecom service provider, has tied up with Vodafone to offer global products like cheaper roaming, multimedia, as well as other high-end voice and data packages in the Channel Islands in Europe, where the Sunil Mittal company is to start mobile service soon.

This deal to activate telecom services covers the Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey -both British dependents.

The services would be under the brand name of both companies - Airtel-Vodafone - and would offer 2G (voice) and 3G (advanced voice and data) services.

"At Bharti it has always been our endeavour to bring world-class services to our customers. We are happy to partner with Vodafone to offer services tailored to the needs of customers in this region", Bharti Enterprises CMD Sunil Mittal said in a release.

The licence to provide the service in both the islands was granted to Airtel in 2006, although the deal has been signed now in order to get the project rolling.
