Bharti Tele-Ventures launches wireless home phone service

Mumbai: Bharti Tele-Ventures Ltd has announced its entry into the GSM-based fixed wireless phone service with the launch of Airtel Mega. With this service which includes an after-sales service offer for the phone model, Airtel's telecom services portfolio comes full circle.

Airtel Mega has the advantages of instant availability, feature-rich instruments and mobility within the premises, said Sanjay Kapoor, joint president (mobility), Bharti Tele-Ventures.

"The fixed line market in India is currently underserved (especially in smaller towns and villages), largely on account of inadequate infrastructure. Through Airtel Mega, we intend to make available home phones to all customers within arm's reach of desire. The biggest advantage that Airtel Mega offers is the end-to-end service delivery (from booking to installation to after-sales) at the customer's doorstep, which is another first from Airtel", Kapoor said.

New Delhi-based Bharti Tele-Ventures, India's leading telecom services provider, expects to expand its customer base with the launch of Airtel Mega.

Bharti already has a small presence in the fixed-line operation. The company is concentrating on high margin customers in that sector as part of a plan to broaden the service offers.

"In addition to delivering Airtel in every hand, we will now also deliver an Airtel in every home. By offering this wireless choice for home phones to our customers, we will truly bring the power of Airtel to every home in India. This innovative home phone service will help Airtel create a special place in millions of homes across India. This launch will also play a crucial role in augmenting our telecom presence across all segments of the market", said Hemant Sachdev, director, marketing and communication.
