BSNL cuts registration fee for connections

New Delhi: BSNL has offered hefty discounts on various telecom services including owering of registration charges on basic telephones to Re1 from the existing Rs 1,000.

"The discounts are for a limited period. We are sure that millions of our existing and new subscribers will benefit immensely from this festive offer," A K Sinha, chairman and managing director, BSNL, told reporters here.

For its cellular subscribers, BSNL announced huge discounts on pre-paid recharge coupons through which a subscriber would get four recharge coupons at the price of three. For post-paid connections, activation charges have been waived.

The discounts are on offer till December 31 this year. The corporation has also announced waiver of installation charges of Rs600 on every new basic phone connection.

BSNL would be spending up to Rs50 crore on the various festive offers. In order to popularise Internet penetration for the broadband, it announced reduction in access rates by up to 60 per cent besides lowering the rental for ISDN lines to Rs400 a month and for an ISDN PRI connection to Rs1,750 a month from Rs5,000.

BSNL has announced free Virtual Calling Cards of different denominations for subscribers paying their bills regularly.
