Bajaj Auto’s ERP for dealers, employees, suppliers goes live

With this Bajaj Auto will connect its entire supply chain to its manufacturing plants, from vehicle dealers in front-end to all the vendors at the back-end, to share business information in real time. This will help them in improved decision-making — be it meeting customers' requirement or be it efficiency in supply-chain management.

“With the dealer and supplier community spread throughout India, Bajaj Auto wanted an online solution to manage dealer relationships and supply chain,“ says Sanjiv Bajaj, vice-president Finance, Bajaj Auto. “The mySAP Enterprise Portal implemented on the SAP ERP backbone, will improve dealer and supplier interaction with the company, so as to optimise manufacturing and sales operations towards higher customer satisfaction. We are happy with the initial results.“

The mySAP Enterprise Portal will cover 100 sales-field employees, 350 dealers in the first phase and the remaining will be covered in the second phase. The dealer portal, in addition to operating information, provides access to unstructured information like news items, new product releases, new product introduction, dealer discussion groups and internal marketplace.

Similarly, Bajaj Auto suppliers will get up-to-date information on purchase orders and contracts, material schedules and payment details, and Bajaj Auto in turn will get invoicing information from suppliers for its automated material receipt system. This will help in streamlining the supply-chain, optimising inventories and reducing non-value-adding activities at both ends.

“We are happy to state that Bajaj Auto is the first Indian company to go live on Enterprise Portal. Enabling effective collaboration, both within the organisation and beyond its borders, is the goal of SAP Portals' family of portal products. With this implementation, Bajaj Auto has successfully started the process of enhancing dealer satisfaction, ensuring a smooth flow of information across the supply-chain resulting in overall improvement of sales, customer satisfaction and efficiency in manufacturing process,“ says Alan Sedghi, president and managing director, SAP India.

Bajaj Auto's new IT infrastructure is supported by IBM's state-of-the-art pSeries & xSeries eServers, Serial Storage Architecture and Tivoli Enterprise Framework Management tools.
