Taxis and autorickshaws in Delhi will soon carry advertisements.

The proposal is part of a 10-point project envisaged by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to increase its income from advertisements to Rs300 crore in the next fiscal.

"We will soon start the tendering process for the scheme to allow owners or operators of taxis, autorickshaws, radio taxis and other commercial for-wheeler vehicles to display advertisements on a revenue sharing basis," Vijender Gupta, the chairman of the standing committee of the MCD, said.

The civic body has decided to outsource the project to private agencies and the allocation process will be initiated shortly.

"We will bring a proposal to this effect before the standing committee next week. After the Standing Committee passes it, approval will be sought from the MCD House," Gupta said.

Among the other advertising schemes planned by the corporation are allowing ads in the MCD community halls as also on the 8,000 'government-to-citizen' kiosks to be set up in various parts of the city to provide different kinds of facilities to the people.

The MCD is also contemplating to allow display of advertisements on electronic screens in various markets. The screens will be installed in a way so that traffic movement is not affected.
