Air Works India has decided to take the lead in providing third party commercial maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services in India. The company will build a platform for aviation services infrastructure at its MRO facility in Hosur, Bangalore.

The facility will boast five state-of-the-art fully equipped hangars that will provide services such as airframe, engine and APU maintenance.

The facility will also have provisions for an aircraft paint shop, engine repair and overhauls, passenger to freighter conversions, interior completions, avionic upgrades, aircraft component repairs and spares.

The MRO facility would support a wide variety of commercial aircraft certified to Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) standards.

Presently Air Works MRO has an 8000 feet X 150 feet runway at Hosur that can allow most narrow and wide body aircraft to land, and operations are scheduled to start by September 2008 using the one existing hangar.

Air Works will finish another two hangers by the end of the year, which will be designed to accommodate wide body aircraft. Two more would be added by the end of 2009.

Thereafter, Air Works India plans to invest in excess of $50 million to establish infrastructure that would support the commercial MRO initiative.
