India test-fires improved BrahMos missile

India today test-fired an improved version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, with new parameters, at the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur off the Odisha coast.
The launch comes just two days after defence scientists conducted a similar trial from the same site.
The missile, test-fired from a ground mobile launcher at the launch complex-3 of the ITR at about 1000 hours, successfully steep-dived once again, defence scientists said after the launch.
''The BrahMos Block III version with advanced guidance algorithm was flight tested from ITR Balasore. The missile flew through the designated 290 km distance at Mach 2.8 and achieved high precision with steep dive once again. The network of telemetry stations and down range ships confirmed that the missile followed the pre designated flight path,'' said Dr Shivtanu Pillai, CEO and managing director of BrahMos Aerospace, an Indo-Russian joint venture.
''It was a text book launch achieving 100 per cent results,'' stated Dr Pillai. "Today's launch was a developmental trial of the land version of BrahMos incorporating certain new systems," he added.
The missile was completely integrated at the BrahMos Integration Complex at Hyderabad.
