Budget carrier IndiGo today grounded a newly-appointed pilot in its ranks who had been under scanner of criminal investigating agencies and issued him a show-cause.

However, the carrier claimed that captain Syed Habeeb Ali had "never flown for IndiGo till date" as he had joined only around six weeks back and had been "absconding for a week or so" since then.

According to an airline spokesperson, Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) had been issued to him before he joined IndiGo.

The spokesperson added that captain Ali had been grounded and a show-cause notice was in the process of being served.

According to sources, the information received from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the police concerning the documents submitted by him to get the ATPL led to further investigation.

The sources add that a team of senior executives had been set up to work on the fake licensing issue. They add that the airline was in the process of reviewing all its internal records and providing them to the DGCA to help them with their investigation.
