New Delhi: India's aviation watchdog body, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), is planning to set up a separate administrative arm of itself, to be called the Civil Aviation Authority of India (CAAI), which will lay down administrative guidelines for the aviation industry.

"We are preparing the feasibility study for setting up Civil Aviation Authority of India. The study is expected to be ready in three months," DGCA director general Nasim Zaidi said at an aviation seminar here today.

The CAAI will perform administrative functions even as the DGCA continues to perform its regulatory role within the industry, Zaidi said.

According to Zaidi, the Asia-Pacific region could soon see seamless movement of aircraft as all the 37 countries in the region have agreed to work towards such an arrangement. This agreement was concluded at an international aviation seminar held recently in Japan.

"As is the case in Europe, there could be seamless movement of aircraft in the Asia Pacific region...All 37 countries in the region have agreed to it," Zaidi added.

The Asia-Pacific Air Planning Implementation Board will oversee integration in policies and procedures of various countries regarding safety and technology, he said.
