Bengaluru International Airport set for launch of operations
14 Apr 2008
New Delhi: Bangalore's greenfield Bengaluru International Airport Ltd (BIAL), located at Devanahalli, may launch operations without any hiccups this time around with civil aviation ministry officials expressing satisfaction with the progress attained on safety related issues. The airport's launch last month was postponed due to last minute installation of air traffic control (ATC) equipment, which prevented ATC officers from familiarising themselves adequately with their operation, and also the air traffic environment around them.
The airport was due to be inaugurated on 30 March by prime minister, Dr Manmohan Singh.
According to media reports, BIAL is likely to receive all clearances from civil aviation authorities by the end of this month. Reports quote Director General of Civil Aviation, Kanu Gohain, as saying that work progress on safety related issues has been good and that the airport should receive all required clearances this time around.
The airport is scheduled to begin commercial operations of the May 11.
