The Nepal government has initiated the process for building a full-fledged international airport at Neejgadh in Bara district. It has approached the American government to do a feasibility study and prepare a detailed proposal, said a high-ranking official.
"The American Trade and Development Office has responded very positively in this regard," said Madhav Ghimire, secretary in the ministry of culture, tourism and civil aviation. "We expect international investors to participate in its construction," he said.
Speaking at a programme organised by the National Aviation Council and the Nepal Tourism Board, he said the Chinese government has also shown interest in building a regional airport at Pokhara. The South Korean government is also willing to spend up to $3 million to improve infrastructure at the Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa, he said.
