22 Sep 2009
Managing director SKF India Limited, Rakesh Makhija, has been appointed president, Asia, with overall coordinating responsibility for the region, effective 1 January 2010.
He will be succeeded by Shishir Joshipura, who will take over from Makhija on 1 December 2009, to smoothen the transition an SKF's Indian operations.
Makhija will be based in Shanghai and report to Tom Johnstone, SKF president and CEO.
The new role also catapults Makhija as member of the SKF group management.
Makhija will be responsible for developing an efficient infrastructure for the Swedish group to support growth in the region, which, the company says, has developed "very positively in recent years and has become an increasingly important market for the SKF Group", with eight of its nine factories started by the parent over the last few years being in this region.
A bachelor of technology in chemical engineering, Makhija came to SKF in 2002, from Honeywell Ltd, India, where he was managing director.
