According to Forbes' Celebrity 100, Angelina Jolie is the most powerful celebrity in the world, replacing  the earlier 'most powerful' Oprah Winfrey.

The 'Mr & Mrs Smith' actress, who is married to Brad Pitt, ranks ninth on the list. She has ridden to the top on the back of a number of blockbuster movies, including Wanted and Changeling, and the endless media buzz surrounding her life.

Forbes said that Jolie made $27 million in the past 12 months. She also lent her voice to the animated hit Kung Fu Panda.

Winfrey dropped down to second on the list but, at $275 million, was the top earner in the list.

The top 10 is completed by Madonna in third, Beyonce Knowles at fourth, Tiger Woods at fifth and Bruce Springsteen at sixth.

Steven Spielberg is seventh and the former Mrs Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, is eighth -- one above her ex husband.

Los Angeles Lakers Basketball star Kobe Bryant completes the top 10. The highest British entry is Coldplay at number 15 -- having earned $70 million in the past 12 months.

Simon Cowell is next in 25th place (one behind George Lucas) with earnings of $75 million.

The next highest-ranked British star is David Beckham at 28. After that only a few Brits sprinkle the lower ranks of the ladder.
