Amitabh Bachchan now also in Bollywood Zone at Madame Tussauds New York news
22 May 2009

The first Indian Bollywood figure to establish a presence at Madame Tussauds in London, can now also be found gazing at his admirers at Madame Tussauds in New York City.

Fittingly, it was Bachchan himself who had been invited to to unveil Madame Tussauds Bollywood Zone, where his second wax figure, dressed in a traditional black Sherwani suit with a gold and black scarf draped around his neck, stands.

It is the first figure to be part of the all-new Bollywood Zone, which was created after numerous visitor requests.

In April 2009 Bachchan was sent on loan from Madame Tussauds London for a three-month stay at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong

''We are thrilled to welcome Amitabh Bachchan to his new home in Madame Tussauds,'' said Janine DiGioacchino, general manager of Madame Tussauds New York.

''Bachchan is a Bollywood film legend and we could think of no better figure to open the new Bollywood Zone, which is an exciting addition to our Times Square attraction,'' DiGioacchino said

Five Bollywood Axion dancers, dressed in colorful lehenga skirts, performed and taught  a traditional Indian dance at the ''Bollywood Bash'' and performed in honour of Bachchan's new wax likeness to a group of 20 middle school students from New York public school P S 111.

The brightly-coloured, fully-interactive Bollywood Zone includes the ''Taj Mahal", videos of authentic Indian dancers and a photo area where visitors can pose as Bollywood stars - all designed to recreate the experience of being on a Bollywood film set with Bachchan. Over the coming years, Madame Tussauds plans to expand the area to include figures of other prominent Bollywood stars.

New York City is the number one destination for Indian tourists visiting the United States and most of them visit Madame Tussauds, which displays a collection of many international celebrities.
