16 November 2007
New Delhi: The Centre may have agreed in principle to grant "mini-ratna"
status to Airports Authority of India (AAI) to enable it to take up projects worth
up to Rs500 crore without seeking government approval. The
grant of such a status would also enable the AAI to form joint ventures with private
companies for the modernisation of airports and aviation infrastructure across
the country, according to sources in the civil aviation ministry. Currently,
the profit-making public sector company can handle projects up to Rs150 crore
on its own. Other
