Government announces top-management changes in banks
New Delhi:
The Government has announced top-level appointments in Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), Punjab National Bank (PNB), Bank of India (BOI), Indian Bank and Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) to fill the vacancies created by the superannuation of a number of banks' chairmen in recent months.

The Finance Ministry has also issued formal orders for the lateral movement of T.S. Narayanasami, CMD of IOB, to BOI and K.C. Chakrabarty from Indian Bank to PNB.

The latest round of top-level appointments also saw a number of executive directors (EDs) getting elevated as CMDs.

The UCO Bank executive director, S.A. Bhat, has been promoted as CMD of IOB. While M.S. Sundara Rajan, currently executive director of Indian Bank, has been elevated as CMD of the same bank, Alok Mishra, executive director at Canara Bank, has been promoted as CMD of OBC.

Premji's son Rishad to join Wipro as business manager
Bangalore:
Wipro's board of directors has approved the appointment of Rishad Premji, the eldest son of chairman Azim Premji, as business manager in the fairly new practice that has been set up under the banking and financial solutions unit of Wipro Technologies.

Rishad will report to Somitro Ghosh, senior vice-president, who in turn reports to Girish Paranjpe, president, finance solutions, Wipro Technologies.

Rishad's joining is subject to shareholders' approval at the forthcoming annual general meeting.

Thirty-year-old Rishad, an MBA from Harvard Business School, had worked briefly with a few companies including General Electric (GE) in the US and Bain Consulting in the UK.

New appointees at Escorts Heart
New Delhi:
Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre has appointed Dr T.S. Kler as executive director, cardiac sciences.
Forty to fifty people have resigned at Escorts Heart, half of whom are doctors. The management says the exits will not affect the momentum of the hospital as Escorts had more capacity than required, due to the planned extensions of the hospital that haven't happened.

Dr Kler has been with the hospital since its inception and said his efforts would also include trying to make the expertise of Escorts' available to the poorer sections of society.

Along with Dr Kler's other new appointments include Dr K.S. Iyer as Head, Paediatric Cardiac Surgery, Dr Meharwal, Dr Yugal Misra and Dr Vijay Kohli as directors for adult cardiac surgery, and Dr Anil Karlekar as head, anaesthesia and critical care medicine.

ONGC top job has 28 candidates in fray
New Delhi:
Around 28 candidates are in the fray for the top job at ONGC.

A search panel headed by the Public Enterprise Selection Board (PESB) chairman, N.K. Sinha, will hold interviews on June 5-6 to select the chairman and managing director of ONGC.

Those in the race for the job include R.S. Sharma, acting chairman of ONGC; A.K. Balyan, director (HR); A.K. Hazarika, director (Onshore); D.K. Pande, director (exploration); U.N. Bose, director (technical services); and R.S. Butola, managing director, ONGC Videsh.

Apart from these M.R. Hingnikar, director (HR) of GAIL (India); M.N. Prasad, CEO, Prize Petroleum; and Najeeb Jung, associated with Oxford Institute of Energy Studies, are also in the reckoning.

The search committee comprises the Petroleum Secretary, M.S. Srinivasan, the former finance secretary, Vijay Kelkar, the IIM-Ahmedabad Director, Bakul Dholakia, and PESB members.

Cisco India chief Jangoo Dalal resigns
Mumbai:
Jangoo Dalal, president and country manager of Cisco (India and SAARC), has resigned from the company.

A spokesperson of Cisco said Jangoo Dalal had decided to put in his papers to pursue his career further and take up a better opportunity.

Naresh Wadhwa, vice president (India and SAARC), Cisco Systems, will hold additional responsibility of the country manager till a replacement for Dalal is found.

Prior to his being appointed country manager last year, Dalal was based in Singapore and was responsible for developing Cisco's channel operations and strategy functions, across the Asia Pacific region.Before joining Cisco in 1997, he was marketing manager at Wipro-British Telecom.

New IBA deputy chairman
Mumbai:
A.K. Khandelwal, chairman and MD Bank of Baroda, has been appointed as deputy chairman of Indian Banks' Association (IBA). He succeeds S.C. Gupta, chairman and MD Punjab National Bank, who retired from services of the bank on attaining superannuation," said an IBA release.
