Bancroft family to meet Murdoch
New York: The Bancroft family's, which controls Dow
Jones & Co. Inc. representatives will have a meeting
with News Corp. chief Rupert Murdoch on Monday to discuss
his $5 billion bid for Dow Jones according to reports
on the Wall Street Journal.
The
meeting is expected to deal solely with issues related
to journalistic integrity according to the Journal. According
to reports Michael Elefante, a partner at the law firm
that represents the Bancroft family, has changed his mind
about considering selling Dow Jones and now says that
the company should consider a sale to Murdoch or another
bidder in order for the media company to remain competitive.
Dow Jones publishes the Journal, Barron's and Dow Jones
Newswires, which compete with Reuters Group Plc and others.

car sales rebound in May
Detroit: Despite high gasoline prices demand for passenger
cars rose and drove US car sales in May for General Motors
Corp., Toyota Motor Corp. and Nissan Motor Co. Ford Motor
Co. and Honda Motor Co. however posted a decline of 10
percent and 1.4 percent, respectively, in May sales. Ford
also surrendered the industry's No. 2 spot to Toyota for
the month.
GM
had a nearly 5 percent sales gain, cut its forecast for
industrywide sales in 2007 but said retail sales had stabilized
after a weak spring.
GM
has forecast U.S. light vehicle sales of less than 16.5
million units in 2007, down from 16.6 million sold in
2006.
Toyota
Motor Corp reported a higher-than-expected 10 percent
increase in sales in May and replaced Ford Motor in the
No 2 carmaker slot in the US.
