'Unified pharma regulatory body soon'

Mumbai: The government is considering setting up a single, central, licensing autonomous body for pharmaceuticals on the lines of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. The single authority will act as a regulatory body and lay down standards for drugs, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.

All diverse drug authorities like the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), the Drug Price Control Order (DPCO) and the Drug and Chemicals Act, would soon come under one umbrella, sources said.

Orissa clears 4000 MW power plant
Bhubaneshwar: The Orissa government on Wednesday has cleared the 4000 mw ultra mega thermal power plant proposed to be set up by NTPC in the coal-rich Sundargarh district after the company NTPC agreed to share one-third of the generated power to the state at nominal price as demanded by the state government.

The power purchase agreement (PPA) would be signed between the Grid Corporation of Orissa (GRIDCO) and Power Finance Corporation (PFC) and NTPC.

The execution of the project is likely to cost over Rs18,000 crore and would commence within a month said state government officials.
