Moody's says 9 per cent GDP growth unsustainable
Mumbai: Moody's Investors Service said the Indian economy may not sustain the 9 per cent growth momentum due to capacity constraints, and there are many signs of overheating in the economy.

Moody's vice president Kristin Lindow also said there were signs of overheating such as consumer credit and said inflation would stay above the central bank's comfort zone.

Govt to enhance ethanol blended petrol programme
New Delhi: The Petroleum Minister, Murli Deora in his inaugural address at Petrotech-2007 here said the Government would enhance the ethanol-blended petrol programme to 10 per cent blend shortly, from the present 5 per cent.

He said measures have been taken to make auto fuels environment-friendly and the introduction of ethanol-blended petrol will also put more income in the hands of farmers. He said the government would implement a five per cent ethanol blend by procuring an estimated 550 million litres of ethanol.

This would be enhanced to 10 per cent blend later. The 5 per cent blend has already been introduced in Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu (except Chennai), Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh (partial), Goa, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Delhi.

Luxembourg to ease visas for Indian professionals
Luxembourg: Luxembourg, a key financial centre of Europe, plans to ease the visa regime for Indian professionals in certain specific sectors.

Luxembourg's Economic Minister Jeann Krecke said, "has a big pool of highly-skilled people and some countries of Europe are afraid of competition".

The curb on access to European service market to Indian professionals has been a sore point in ties between New Delhi and European Union. But now there is hope that Luxembourg could take a lead in changing the scenario as the country gets a daily dose of more than 100,000 people from its three neighbours Germany, France and Belgium who come to this country for employment.

Tatas' Singur site boils
Singur: Events are nearing boiling point at Singur, the site of the Tata Motors' small car project here with Trinamool Congress (TC) workers led by party president Subrata Bakshi breaking into the area and uprooted two posts, police said.

The TC workers entered the prohibitory order bound area as the police led by IGP (Western Range) Arun Gupta and DIG N R Babu were busy at Chanditala where party supporters had assembled for a march to Singur to protest the acquisition of farmland for the project, sources said.

The two posts had been erected to demarcate the land for the Tata project, the police said.

Recently also officials of the Tata Motors and state government were gheraoed here.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 Cr PC are in force in the area.
