Barbhaiya to head Ranbaxy R&D
Mumbai: Rashmi Barbhaiya, who holds a senior position in US drug major Bristol-Myers Squibbs Pharmaceutical Research Institute, is likely to replace J M Khanna, the current president of R&D at Ranbaxy. He will be based in Ranbaxys Gurgaon research campus.

Khanna who is also director on the board of Ranbaxy, is scheduled to retire on 31 July, having already received two extensions to his term.

Barbhaiya is a doctorate with nearly three decades of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

Centurion promoters quit board
Mumbai: Davendra Ahuja and V S Srinivasan have stepped down from the board of Centurion Bank.

Two new professionals have been inducted on to the board as non-executive directors.

They are former comptroller & auditor general C G Somiah and Kamlesh Vikamsey, a chartered accountant and senior partner of Khimji Kunverji.

The other director who stepped down is Satish Kaura of Samtel, while Kanta Ahuja, who served as an alternate director to Kaura, has ceased to be part of the Banks board following Kauras resignation.

Vaswani to head Walden India
Mumbai: Walden International has appointed Dinesh Vaswani as head of its India operations.

The move follows the exit of the incumbent country CEO, Sudhir Sethi, who will be joining Hyderabad-based Infotech Enterprises as president and executive director.

Vaswani, who is currently a general partner based with Walden in the US, will also assist the firms team in Asia in identifying and developing cross-border software companies. Vaswani joined Walden US in February this year.

SK Gupta is Vesuvius Chairman
Kolkata: Vesuvius India Ltd has appointed SK Gupta as its chairman following the resignation of Jahar Sengupta.

Sengupta has cited health grounds for stepping down as chairman of the company.

Gupta, who becomes the new chairman from 18 April, is a metallurgical engineer with a doctorate and D.Sc on ferrous process metallurgy. He was a professor at the Indian Institute of Technology at Mumbai, founder-director of the research & development centre of Steel Authority of India Ltd, chief executive of Mecon and Sails Rourkela Steel Plant.

At present, he is executive vice-chairman of Jindal Vijaynagar Steel and chairman of Malvika Steel.

Dongre to head Usha Brita
New Delhi: Neelkanth Ratnakar Dongre has replaced Lala Charat Ram as the head of Usha Shriram Brita Pvt Ltd.

While Lala Charat Ram has resigned as the chairman of the company as well as from the board, Dongre has joined the board as the chairman.

Usha Shriram Brita is a 50:50 joint venture between Usha Shriram Furniture Industries Ltd and Brita of Germany. The company is engaged in the business of water purification systems.

Sudhir Sethi is InfoTech president
Hyderabad: InfoTech Enterprises, the Hyderabad-based software services company, has appointed Sudhir Sethi, as its president and executive director.

Sethi has been associated with the company for the past two years as a non-executive director. He was earlier a general partner with Walden International Investment Group, a venture capital firm focusing on technology investments.
