Virendra Kumar appointed BHEL director
New Delhi: Virendra Kumar has been appointed as the new director (engineering, research & development) of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL).

Garcia is new Bata (I) MD
Mumbai: Bata India Ltd has appointed F Garcia as the managing director of the company. According to a company notice to the Bombay Stock Exchange, former managing director C Morzaria will, however, continue on the board as a non-executive director.

Mr Garcia was recently appointed as the joint managing director of the company with effect from August 24, 2001. Mr Morzaria, 57, was appointed as additional director on January 30, 2001. He has post graduate education from London Business School of Economics, London, Babson College, United States of America, Waterloo University, Ontario, Canada and University of Western Ontario, Canada.

Suvir Ahuja is Gesco MD
Mumbai: Gesco has appointed Suvir Ahuja managing director of the company effective from Thursday. Ahuja's appointment was consequent to the resignation of Pranay Vakil as director and managing director of the company, Gesco informed the Bombay Stock Exchange.

Earlier, Ahuja was chief executive officer of Mahindra Realty & Infrastructure Developers.

D S Mathur is MRPL chairman
Mumbai: Hindustan Petroleum has nominated D S Mathur chairman of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals. Mathur replaces HPCL chairman and managing director H L Zutshi, MRPL informed the Bombay Stock Exchange.

HPCL, which is one of the promoter companies of MRPL, has nominated N K Puri its director in place of Zutshi, it added.

Tata Engineering revamps board
Mumbai: Tata Engineering has appointed Dr V Sumantran as executive director (R&D and passenger car business unit) and Mr PP Kadle as executive director (finance and corporate affairs).

The other members of the senior management team in Tata Engineering comprises Mr Ravi Kant, who holds charge as executive director (commercial vehicle business unit), Mr AP Arya who is the senior vice-president (Jamshedpur and Lucknow plants) and Mr PM Telang, vice-president (Pune plant).

Dr Sumantran has been with General Motors in the United States for over 15 years, holding senior level positions in the engineering/product development areas.

Helleur replaces Deshpande as MBT chief
Pune: John Helleur has taken over as CEO of Mahindra British Telecom (MBT) in place of Kiran Deshpande who has left to move on to new challenges.

Mr Helleur has been associated with MBT as the BT representative. He left BT around a year ago but continued to be on the MBT board.

Satish Menon quits Zee News
Mumbai: Zee News chief and all India head of sales, Satish Menon is reported to have quit making way for Kanta Advani who is director of Zee Network and head of Zee Cinema. Menon, a former journalist, has been with Zee for around three years now.

Rakesh Mohan to stay as FMs advisor
New Delhi: Dr Rakesh Mohan will continue as advisor to the Union finance minister, as the finance ministry on Wednesday cancelled the order accepting his resignation.

Dr Mohan was reportedly requested by the finance minister to stay on at least to see the budget through, and Dr Mohan acceded to the request.
