Corporatisation of telecom department opposed by DTS employees
New Delhi: The move to corporatise the telecom department from October 1, has been staunchly opposed by a section of telecom employees. They have said that the free phone package is not linked to a negotiated settlement for corporatisation of DTS.

The government, which was trying to negotiate the corporatisation issue with the new "free phone" facility announced by the telecom minister, failed to arrive at an agreement with the joint unions that represent the telecom employees. The unions have threatened to resort to direct action if the government proceeded with the corporatisation proposal.

Commenting on the "free phone" facility, the unions said that the grant of free telephone service to all group C and D employees was only ending the discrimination to the low paid employees since group A and B employees have already been enjoying such a facility.
