CII gets new president in Arun Bharat Ram
New Delhi: Arun Bharat Ram, vice-chairman and senior
managing director, SRF, took over as president of the CII today. Sanjiv Goenka,
vice-chairman, RPG Enterprises, was unanimously elected as the vice-president of the CII.
Mr Bharat Ram who has been on various
government-industry committees, is also the past president of the Association of Synthetic
Fibre Industry and also on the Managing Committee of Development Panel on man-made Fibre
Industry. He was earlier chairman of the Indo-Korea Joint Business Council. He was also
chairman of the Northern Region of the CII.
Mr Bharat Ram graduated in industrial engineering from the
University of Michigan, USA and started his career in 1967 in Delhi with the Delhi Cloth
& General Mills Co (now DCM) in the textile division of the company. In 1971, he
became associated with SRF, a company promoted by DCM to set up a new nylon tyre cord
factory in Tamil Nadu. Mr Bharat Ram was appointed MD of the company in 1975 and VC in
1988. The company later diversified into engineering plastics, fishnet twines and
chemicals and downstream projects in industrial fabrics.
