Salomon Smith appoints two MDs for India
Mumbai:
Salomon Smith Barney (SSB), a global, full service investment banking and securities brokerage firm and part of Citigroup, announced the appointment of two managing directors for its operations in the country.

Mr. Brian Brown has been appointed the head of the new Indian equities business the firm is establishing. He joins in from W I Carr, where he was heading the Indian securities business since 1996, based out of Mumbai. He had, during his tenure with Carr, helped the company attain top position among foreign brokers.

Mr. Pramit Jhaveri will be taking over as head of SSB's growing investment banking unit. He has been serving at Citibank as the vice president and head of corporate finance for SSB in India since 1997. He was also a member of Citibank's management committee responsible for the bank's operations in the Indian sub-continent.

Manoj Tirodakar gets Young achiever award
Mumbai:
The 35-year old managing director of Mumbai based software and e-commerce solutions company, Global Telesystems, Mr. Manoj Tirodkar, was today awarded the India's Young Business Achiever award. He will now go to Orlando, Florida to represent India the finals of the World Young Business Achiever award.

The award was conferred on Mr. Tirodkar, who was chosen by a panel headed by Mr. Keshub Mahindra and which included the likes of SA Dave, Uday Kotak, AS Kasliwal, MV Subbiah, Deepak Parekh, Pradeep Kar, Simone Tata and Raghavendra Rao.

Global Telesystems, floated in 1987 with three employees, is today a powerhouse in the IT field with combined turnover of over Rs. 700 crore and a market cap of Rs. 6,800 crore.
