Darbari Seth is dead
Mumbai: Darbari Seth, a name synonymous with the Indian chemical industry
and the house of Tatas, died in London, just before completing 80.
Mr Seth was chairman emeritus of Tata Chemicals, Tata Tea and
Rallis India. He was also a director on the board of Tata Sons. A chemical engineering
graduate of Cincinnati University of the US and a winner of several academic awards, Mr
Seth was instrumental in the growth and prosperity of Tata Chemicals, whose market
capitalisation he took from a mere Rs 5 crore to nearly Rs 4,600 crore.

Pillai is Mather &
Platt MD
Calcutta: Satish G. Pillai is the new managing director of Mather &
Platt India, a Manu Chhabria company, and a leading designer and manufacturer of
centrifugal pumps. Mr Pillai is expected to handle the restructuring and reorganisation of
the company. A mechanical engineer, Mr Pillai was vice-president of Kirloskar Brothers. He
has 22 years of experience in the pump industry.

Unilever man joins
Dharamsi Morarji
Mumbai: Vinod K.Punshi from Unilever, China, is joining the Dharamsi
Morarji Chemical Company as advisor to the chairman. Mr Punshi was director (chemicals) at
Hindustan Lever before moving to Unilever in London as technical member (detergents
coordination) and then to China as technical director.
Mr Punshi is expected to advise Dharamsi Morarji in
improving its fertilisers and commodity chemicals businesses.

Petronet MD Chhabra
quits
Mumbai: Pipeline holding company Petronet Indias managing director
Luv Chhabra has resigned. He said he would like to take a break, but industry sources said
the company's internal problems have forced him to quit.
Mr Chhabra is considered to be largely responsible for
making Petronet an established entity it is today. He was finance director at Bharat
Petroleum Corporation till 1995.

Atul Malik to head
Citibank cards
Mumbai: Atul Malik is taking over as head of Citibanks cards
business in India from M.N. Murali, who has been shifted to Hong Kong as head of the
banks cards business there. Mr Malik at present looks after cards sales of the bank.
Citibank has a card base of 1.2 million in India.
