Nifty up
Mumbai: Speculative purchases and short-covering pushed up the CNX S&P Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange by 19.55 points to 1449.80 on 23 October. Trading took place only on the NSE, which was open for two hours in order to maintain and test its back-up site at Pune.

Speculators had a field day as there were no financial institutional players.

Badla rates at 21.25 per cent
Mumbai: Weighted badla rates on the Bombay Stock Exchange settled around 21.25 per cent at the carry-forward session on 23 October. The badla rate in the previous week was 22 per cent. Securities worth Rs 2,700 crore were carried forward to the next settlement. The badla rates opened at 19 per cent and at one point of time touched a high of 25 per cent.
