award for Narayana Murthy
Bangalore: The first-ever Sir M. Visvesvaraya
memorial award instituted by the Federation of Karnataka
Chambers of Commerce and Industry, has been awarded to N.R.
Narayana Murthy, chairman of Infosys Technologies.
The award has been instituted
to commemorate with the 138th birth anniversary
of Sir M. Visvesvaraya.

Singh to join Zee Telefilms
New Delhi: R.K. Singh, managing director
ESPN Asia, is slated to take over as chief executive of
Zee Telefilms from 1 October.
At Zee, Mr Singh will not
handle Zee's sports-related activities, but instead
look after the company's broadcasting activities, focusing
mainly on developing the group's pay-per-view channels
and the digital bouquet the company is planning.

Bammi to head Deutsche Bank group
Mumbai: Deutsche Bank announced the appointment
of Rohit Bammi as head of the financial institutions group
in India. Mr Bammi is taking over from Claudio Luneburg,
who is on a new assignment in the financial institutions
division of the Deutsche Bank
Mr Bammi will head relationship
management for financial institution clients. Deutsche
Bank is the largest bank in the world in terms of assets.
Mr Bammi was with Citibank
in India as vice president and unit head, banks.

Sminu
Jindal in charge of Saw Pipe local operations
New Delhi: Sminu Jindal, daughter of
P.R. Jindal, chairman of Saw Pipes, has been given the
charge of the company's Indian operations.
The company is setting up
a 100 per cent export-oriented unit in Gujarat to cater
to the needs of the market. The export unit will have
a capacity to make one lakh tonne of longitudinally welded
pipes.

Kapadia is ASCI chairman
Mumbai: Bharat Kapadia, associate publisher
and chief executive of Chitralekha group of publications,
has been unanimously elected chairman of the Advertising
Standards Council of India.
Sam Balsara, chairman and
managing director of Madison Communications, is the vice-chairman.
Members constituting the board of governors of ASCI are:
A. Dasgupta, C.R. Irani, Ms Urmila Jain, Dr (Ms) V.V.
Manerikar, Harish Manwani, Jacob Mathew, Ms Zia Mody,
N. Murani, Bharat V. Patel, R.A. Poddar, Goutam Rakshit,
Conrad Saldanha, Ram Sehgal and Dorab Sopariwala.
Mr Kapadia was responsible
for reviewing and updating the ACI code for self-regulation
in advertising.

Pepsi
prefers insiders for top positions
New York: Pepsico, true to its traditions,
has named insiders to man its two active divisions, Frito-Lay
and Tropicana. It has named Al Bru as president and chief
executive officer of Frito-Lay North America, replacing
Steven Reinemund, who will take over as Pepsi's president
and chief operating officer at its Purchase, New York
headquarters. . The company also named Brock Leach as
president and chief executive of Tropicana Products.
Mr Bru was president and
general manager of Frito-Lay's Sabritas snack maker in
Mexico, while Mr Leach has been a long time executive
with Frito-Lay.
Earlier, former Tropicana
head Gary Rodkin took over the reins of Pepsi-Cola North
America, its soft drinks unit, after Philip Marineau left
to head Levi Strauss & Co.
