Saurabh Mishra to head Grasim
Mumbai: Saurabh Mishra, who joined the A.V. Birla group after quitting
from ITC in March 1999, has been elevated to head the group's cement division.
Mr Mishra will replace M.C. Bagrodia, a confidante of the late
Aditya Vikram Birla, who oversaw the integration of the cement business of Indian Rayon
and Grasim under the Grasim banner. Mr Bagrodia will head the group's carbon black
business. He will also be a full time director on the Grasim board.
Both Mr Mishra and Mr Bagrodia are directors on the board
of the Birla Management Centre, the elite think-tank of the Rs 20,000-crore group.

Changes at Lupin
Mumbai: Lupin Laboratories has made personnel changes at its top level.
While Lalit Kumar, president (international), who has been heading the entire bulk drug
and export division of the formulations business, has resigned, the company has shifted
Manohar Arora, president (pharmaceuticals) to "special assignments".
The Rs 716-crore company promoted by Desh Bandhu Gupta now
intends to have a new president and divide Mr Kumar's responsibilities between him and
Vinita Gupta, the eldest daughter of Mr Gupta.
Lupin has recruited Pradeep Rane, formerly of Ranbaxy's
Rexcel division, as director, to replace Mr Arora. Nitin Jaywant, formerly managing
director of Lupin Labs (Thailand), has been promoted to the post of president to head the
entire bulk drug business.

Bhatnagar to head Enron
SE Asia unit
New Delhi: Sanjay Bhatnagar, head of Enron's Indian operations, will head
Enron Corporation's South East Asian business group. He will be responsible for the
company's operations in India, Bangladesh and Nepal.
Mr Bhatnagar will report to Enron Corporation's top
management team headed by chief executive officer and chairman Kenneth Lay, chief
operating officer Jeff Skilling and vice chairman Joseph Sutton.

Mayya plans to quit from BSE
depository
Mumbai: P.V. Mayya, managing director of the Central Depository Services
of the Bombay Stock Exchange, is understood to be stepping down. He has conveyed his
decision to the chairman of the depository, S.A. Dave.
There are reports that Mr Mayya has differences of opinion
with BSE officials on decisions taken for the depository. Mr Mayya, however, declined to
comment on the news.

Mike Moore to take over
as WTO head
Geneva: Mike Moore, former New Zealand prime minister, will take over as
chief of the World Trade Organisation on 1 September.
The appointment of the head of WTO was mired in
controversy, as there was a bitter fight between Mr Moore and Supachai Panitchpakdi of
Thailand for the position.
