Markets have shown a sharp cut in trade during the later part of the day after consolidating with marginal losses for the entire day. Nifty closed below the 4300 mark. All BSE sectoral indices are ended in red. Heavy selling pressure was seen in realty and banking stocks. Power, capital goods, oil & gas and FMCG stocks also witnessed selling pressure.

The markets have traded with muted volumes ahead of the F&O expiry day. The BSE midcap and smallcap indices are closed down nearly 1%.

It seems that incremental flows at FII desk was marginally negative. Activity also muted at domestic institutional desk. Domestic punters are playing on select small and midcap stocks.

Sensex was down 185.43 points or 1.28% at 14296.79, and the Nifty was down 45.40 points or 1.05% at 4292.10.

Markets breadth was negative, about 1123 shares have advanced, 1711 shares declined, and 334 shares are unchanged.

The BSE realty index was down 3.50% or 175.65 points at 4837. Stocks like Indiabulls Real, DLF, Ansal Propertie, Unitech and HDIL slipped 2.1- 8.6%.

Banking stocks like Kotak Mahindra, IndusInd Bank, SBI, ICICI Bank and IDBI Bank dragged 2.31- 3.76%. The BSE Bankex was down 2.14% or 147.09 points at 6715.45.

The BSE power index was down 1.41% or 36.44 points at 2550.31. Stocks like CESC, Reliance Infra, Areva T&D, GVK Power and BHEL fell 2.34 - 4.11%.

The BSE capital goods was down 1.16% or 138.54 points at 11754.87. Stocks like Alstom Projects, Kirloskar Bros, Areva T&D, BHEL and SKF India slid 1.87- 4.25%.

The BSE oil and gas index was down 1.15% or 112.74 points at 9655.60. Stocks like Essar Oil, Reliance Natura, Reliance, Reliance Petro and HPCL down 1.11-1.85%.

The BSE FMCG index was down 0.55% or 12.02 points at 2182.16. Stocks like Marico, GlaxoSmith Con, United Brewerie, Rei Agro and ITC fell 0.78-2.76%.

The BSE pharma index was down 0.41% or 17.76 points at 4294.49. Stocks like Opto Circuits, Bilcare, Cadila Health, Sterling Bio and Sun Pharma Adv down 2.55-3.98%.

The BSE metal index was down 0.26% or 32.14 points at 12149. Stocks like Welspun Guj, Mahalaxmi Sm, JindalStainless, Jindal Steel and Ispat Industries fell 1.80-5.79%.

Total turnover traded in markets stood at Rs 59982.14 crore. This includes Rs 8757.12 crore from NSE Cash segment, Rs 47535.27 crore from NSE F&O and balance Rs 3689.75 crore from BSE Cash segment.

Asian markets were trading mixed today. Shanghai down 1.27%, Nikkei slipped 0.38%, and Straits Times was down marginally. However, the Hang Seng rose 0.58%, Taiwan rose 1.72% and Seoul Composite was up 0.11%.
