It was a good session for markets after five days of losing streak. Frontline indices have bounced back and stayed on strong through the day despite some volatility at higher levels. Capital goods, pharma, realty, power and metal stocks were leaders of the day. Positive Asian and European cues was also being supportive for markets. Buying was seen in midcap and small cap stocks as well. The Sensex has touched an intraday high of 14,746.20 before closing at 14,678.23, a gain of 134.50 points or 0.92%. Nifty ended with a gain of 47.5 points or 1.09% at 4415.75. It has hit a high of 4434.90. BSE Midcap was up 1.04% or 60.05 points to settle at 5,826.37 and Small Cap ended at 7,066.23, up 0.76%. Amongst frontliners, SAIL shot up by 5.67%, Reliance Comm 3.76%, ABB 3.73%, Grasim 3.64%, BHEL 3.40%, Bharti Airtel 2.99% and Ranbaxy Labs 2.71%. However, ONGC lost 2.52%, M&M -2.08%, Satyam -0.74% and Suzlon Energy -0.86%. Idea Cellular has dialed into the Mumbai circle today. It will launch with initial network of over 1,000 sites in Mumbai. It will offer 2G mobile technology with 2.75G capabilities and edge. The stock has surged 2.81% at 84.20. Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman, Aditya Birla Group said that the total expense for Mumbai operations is seen at Rs 800 crore till March. Idea is looking at garnering 20% of the net additions in Mumbai circle in the next one year and atleast 8 lakh customers in the next 12 months, he added. He expects Idea's Mumbai operations to break even in four years. Other telecom stocks like Reliance Comm, Bharti Airtel, TataTeleservices and Tata Comm have jumped up smartly. Fertiliser stocks like Chambal Fert, Coromandel Fert, Fert & Chem, GSFC, Mangalore Chem, Nagarjuna Fert, National Fert, RCF and Zuari Industries shot up 2.5%-5% as Union Chemical and Fertilizer Minister Ram Vilas Paswan says Ministry of Finance has cleared Rs 22,000 crore in cash as subsidy for fertiliser companies. Second tranche of Rs 32,000 crore subsidy will also be paid in cash. Total fertiliser subsidy burden is seen at Rs 1,19,000 crore, he said. Realty Index outperformed other indices, jumped up by 1.76% or 90.31 points at 5,207.81 due to buying in Parsvnath, Mahindra Life, Akruti City, Sobha Developer, Unitech, Omaxe and DLF, which up 2-3.20%. Power stocks have charged up, which include Torrent Power, Reliance Power, Reliance Infra, GMR Infra, NTPC and Power Grid Corp. Index rose 1.72% or 45.03 points at 2,660.14. Capital Goods Index ended with a gain of 207.11 points or 1.72% at 12,269.52 as buying is seen in ABB, BHEL, Elecon Engg, Alstom Projects, Punj Lloyd, AIA Engineering, BEML, Siemens and L&T. Metal stocks were also shining, index was up by 202.85 points or 1.65% at 12,475.65. SAIL, Ispat Industries, Jindal Steel, Jindal Saw, Hind Zinc, Sterlite Ind, Welspun Guj, Sesa Goa and Tata Steel have gained. Pharma stocks like Matrix Lab, Wockhardt, Ranbaxy Labs, Sun Pharma, Cipla, Biocon and Cadila Health closed higher. Healthcare Index gained 69.97 points or 1.64% at 4,336.76. Bankex rose by 43.60 points or 0.63% at 6,935.78 due to buying in IDBI Bank, HDFC Bank, IndusInd Bank, Allahabad Bank, Federal Bank, PNB, Karnataka Bank and Yes Bank. Oil & Gas Index ended with a gain of 44.56 points or 0.45% at 10,032.47 as RNRL, GAIL, Reliance Petro, Reliance Ind, BPCL, Essar Oil and HPCL have gained. However, ONGC, Aban Offshore, IOC and Cairn India lost ground. Crude was hovering around USD 115 a barrel on the NYMEX. IT, Auto and FMCG indices ended flat at 3,903.22, 3,858.27 and 2,161.71, respectively. Amongst midcap stocks, Thomas Cook, Motilal Oswal, Ashapura Mine, ABG Shipyard, Engineers Ind and India Infoline rose 6-20%. In the small cap space, Saint-Gobain, OM Metals Infra, Hind Org Chem, Spanco Tele, Graphite India, Simplex Project and Unichem Labs shot up by 8-20%. Kirloskar Electric gained over 7%% at Rs 128, as the company has acquired two companies in Germany Via its wholly owned subsidiary. Most active shares on the bourses were Reliance Industries, Reliance Comm, ICICI Bank, Reliance Infra and HDFC. Market breadth was positive through the day; about 1724 shares have advanced while 1051 shares declined. Nearly 390 shares remained unchanged. Total turnover traded in markets stood at Rs 51,999.71 crore. This includes Rs 4,248.31 crore from BSE cash segment, Rs 9,183.7 crore from NSE Cash and balance Rs 38,567.7 crore from NSE F&O segment. Asian markets ended higher barring Nikkei and Kospi. Shanghai rose 7.63%, Hang Seng 2.18%, Jakarta Composite 1.33%, Straits Times 0.86% and Taiwan Weighted 0.89%. However, Nikkei and Kospi fell marginally.
