Number of cyber crimes in India may touch 3 lakh in 2015: Study

India which is witnessing a massive surge in cyber crimes might end up with 3 lakh in 2015 posing severe economic and national security challenges, an Assocham-Mahindra SSG study has warned, PTI reported.

The risk has shot up significant with the increased use of smartphones and tablets for online banking and other financial transactions.

India has emerged as the happy hunting ground of cybercriminals, mostly hackers and other malicious users who others who commit crimes such as identity theft, spamming, phishing and other types of fraud.

According to the findings of the study, the total number of cyber crimes registered during 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 stood at 13,301, 22,060, 71,780 and 1,49,254 respectively.
