American Megatrends targets 10 per cent of storage solutions marketnews

Chennai: Storage solutions company American Megatrends India Private Limited is targetting nearly 10 per cent of the Indian storage solutions market that is expected to grow to $200 million next year from the 2006''s level of $152 million.

The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of American Megatrends Inc, USA.

Addressing the media in Chennai on Friday at the launch function of its storage solution software StorTrends iTX 2.7, Jayaram Krishnan, director and CEO, said the domestic storage solutions market was witnessing an annual accelerated growth of 25 per cent.

He said that India ranked fourth in sales of storage solutions the Asia Pacific market.

He said the internet protocol storage area networks- (IP SAN) based storage solutions has a growing market appeal and is expected to overtake the SAN market in 2008.

Targetting the enterprise segment for its new solution StorTrends iTX 2.7 group chief technology officer Paresh Chatterjee said the software offers storage capacity starting from 1 tera byte (TB) to 256 TB. According to him the capacity is scalable and incorporates SAS and SATA drives. A sophisticated algorithm ensures that critical and often used data is stored in the costlier SAS drive whereas the less important data is stored in the SATA drives.

The Indian subsidiary which started off as a offshore software development wing is also into retailing of products through system integrators. Krishnan says the revenue mix between software and retail is 85:15 and is expected to remain more or less the same in the coming years.
