Share of IT, ITeS in India''s GDP to go up to 7 per cent by 2008 news

Mumbai: Information technology (IT) and IT-enabled services (ITeS) sector will account for seven per cent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP) by 2007-08 against 4.8 per cent in 2005-06, government sources said.

Business transformation outsourcing (BTO) is expected to offer a market potential of $680 billion by the end of March 2009, Jainder Singh, IT secretary said at a BPO and ITeS summit organised by industry chamber Assocham.

While BTO will grow at 9-10 per cent per annum, the percentage of BTO services in the outsourcing spectrum is expected to increase to 31 per cent by 2009 from 19 per cent in 2004, he added.

An Assocham study on business transformation outsourcing has ranked Bangalore and Gurgaon as the top two BTO destinations in future.
