15 December 2006
Mumbai: IT majors Infosys Technologies and Wipro will set up facilities at the Mahindra Gesco special economic zone, being established in Rajasthan in partnership with the Rajasthan Industrial Development and Investment Corporation (RIICO).

Both the companies have accepted the offer from Mahindra Gesco to set up units in the SEZ, official sources said.

Infosys chief mentor N R Narayan Murthy and senior officials from Wipro would be present in Mahindra World City, Jaipur on December 16 to sign agreements for this purpose.

Five MoUs will be signed on the occasion, the source added.

Mahindra World City Jaipur Ltd, a special-purpose vehicle, would execute the fully-integrated business city in the SEZ format. The Mahindra group company and the Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation (RIICO) would be shareholders in the SPV.

The Rajastan government has acquired over 3,000 acres of land on Ajmer-Kishangarh bypass for the SEZ, the source said.

The SEZ project, involving investments to the tune of Rs1,000-1,100 crore, would take 3-5 five years to be completed.

The business city's main focus would be IT and IT-enabled services and creating a world-class logistic hub for the northern states.
The project is expected to attract investment in excess of Rs10,000 crore ($2 billion) and generate one lakh jobs.

The first Mahindra World City, set up in partnership with the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation in Chennai in September 2002, has three sector-specific SEZs - IT (services and manufacturing), apparel and fashion accessories and auto ancillaries.
