China ''driving global chip sales'' news
02 November 2006
China's rapidly growing demand for computers and mobile phones will drive strong growth for microchips in the global market, forecasts an industry body World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS).

According to WSTS estimates chip sales are expected to rise by 8.6 per cent next year before growing 12.1 per cent in 2008. The Asia-Pacific region, led by China will fuel the bulk of the growth, it says.

However, WSTS down has revised downwards its 2006 growth forecast from 10.1 per cent to 8.5 per cent because of weak sales in the second quarter of 2006.

Growth forecasts for 2008 were predicated on a "challenging yet generally healthy world economy", WSTS added.
