Force10 from San Jose to target Indianews

Chennai: Force10 Networks Inc, headquartered San Jose, USA has decided to cash on the emerging internet market in India. The company will shortly establish a distribution network to market its 10 Gigabit Ethernet switches and routers. According to Gary Jackson, vice president, APAC sales, the company is talking to couple of IT hardware integrators.

"Our initial target would be portals, software development companies and data centres. Later we would look at other segments." According to him, the global 10 Gigabit Ethernet switch market is estimated around $2.5 billion and is growing faster than other product segments. "US is the largest market for the 10 Gigabit products and we are number two player in this segment." He said the total Indian market for Ethernet switches of all categories is around $1 billion.

The company would first look at the Bangalore and Mumbai markets and later expand to Delhi and Chennai. The Indian market is growing fast for bandwidth with intenet protocol television, gaming and peer-to-peer networks growing.

In India, Force10 Networks' wholly owned subsidiary is headquartered in Chennai. The Indian subsidiary started with research and development and later entered into product support. "The software for our S-series access products was developed in Chennai and a major portion of software for the E series product was made here," said Sachi Sambandan, vice president, Engineering. He also added that the hardware for the 'P' series security product range was developed here.

According to him, the Indian company is in the process of ramping up its headcount from the current 90 to 145 employees. The headcount increase is to support software development and also to take care of after sales product support. The Indian centre offers technical assistance to customers in Japan, Korea, China and Australia.
