International talks over China's homegrown wireless LAN encryption standard, called WAPI, turned bitter when the Chinese delegation withdrew from the talks, charging the IEEE with unfairness. The dispute turned bitter recently when the ISO standards body rejected WAPI in favour of the IEEE 802.11i WLAN security standard.
