Nortel, Huawei end "ultra" broadband JVnews
12 June 2006
Nortel and Huawei have ceased their joint venture to develop broadband products, deciding "not to proceed" with the joint venture to develop gigabit "ultra" broadband access products that they had announced in February. The closure has been revealed through a Nortel 10Q SEC filing last week. Nortel had entered into the deal with Huawei nearly five years after exiting the broadband access market.

With the deal being scrapped, Nortel would now appear to be left out of the AT&T/Verizon/BellSouth Request For Proposal (RFP) for Gigabit PON products for IP video and next-generation broadband access buildouts.

Nortel's joint venture with Huawei was its response to that RFP.
