McAfee acquires Preventsys news
07 June 2006
McAfee has announced that it has acquired start-up Preventsys, which makes the Preventsys Security Risk Management System, for consolidating multi-vendor data for a dashboard view of threat assessment and security compliance.

Analysts said that the acquisition, though not a big one in financial terms, has the potential to provide McAfee a big payoff by providing its ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) management console a boost. ePO is McAfee's management console for anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-spam and other related security products.

Integrating Preventsys into ePO, say analysts, should transform ePO from a utilitarian product into more of a knowledge based entity that will be able to give security managers far more security-related information in a manner found to be relevant to some reviewers. This, say analysts, should be McAfee's big gain from the acquisition.
