Red Hat completes $350 million JBoss acquisitionnews
05 June 2006
Red Hat has announced that it has completed its $350 million acquisition of Java application server vendor JBoss. Announced in April, the deal had taken the IT industry by surprise, even as it was speculating about a likely takeover of the company by Oracle.

The deal provides new momentum for Red Hat in its efforts to move away from its Linux operating system roots. JBoss will now operate as a division of Red Hat, with Marc Fleury, founder and former CEO of JBoss, heading the division as senior vice president and general manager.

At the Red Hat Summit last week, Red Hat had announced that it was dropping its application server based on the open source Jonas project from Europe's ObjectWeb open source software consortium, in favour of the JBoss application server. Red Hat had earlier said that it expected to continue its investment in Jonas.
