Forrester report: Infrastructure management market on acquisition spreenews
01 June 2006
According to an April report from Forrester Research, the 11 largest infrastructure management vendors have absorbed some 72 companies over the past few years, spending upwards of $17 billion in the process.

According to the report, The infrastructure management pendulum is still in full swing, deals range from tiny buys such as BMC's acquisition of OpenNetwork for $18 million to Symantec's more than $10 billion merger with Veritas.

The report identifies the big four, BMC, CA, HP and IBM, as the big and frequent spenders, with close to a total of 40 buys among them since 2002. Forrester analysts expect these companies to remain the top four in the market, though with increasing competition.

"Despite the consolidation, the number of viable long-term vendor options for clients has increased: Companies like Mercury, Sun Microsystems, and Symantec are starting to move a lot more aggressively into a market traditionally ruled by the "Big Four": BMC, CA, HP, and IBM," reads the report.
