CollabNet Software to focus on Indian marketnews

Chennai: Bagging a big order from the Indian government for its CollabNet Enterprise Edition, collaborative software development solution firm the CollabNet Software Pvt Ltd has announced its decision to focus on the Indian market. The company had earlier bagged an order from Asian software giant Tata Consultancy Services Limited (TCS).

The Chennai-headquartered company is a wholly owned subsidiary of US-based CollabNet Inc.

Declining to disclose the name of the ministry / department of the Indian government that has awarded the order and also its size, president CEO Bill Portelli said, "We will shortly make a formal announcement. It is a large information technology (IT) organisation of the Indian government that provides network backbone and e-governance support to central and state / union territory governments and other government bodies has become its customer."

In order to enable its Indian thrust, CollabNet has rented two servers from Sify Limited.

Effective collaboration is the critical factor in software development with software professionals placed in different parts of the globe. And CollabNet's product enables that. "The overall software tools market is estimated to be around $3 billion. We estimate the size of collaborative software development solution market size to be in the region of half a billion dollars," he adds.

Apart from its enterprise edition, CollabNet recently released the CollabNet Subversion on Demand, a low cost option. Till date there are around 2.5-lakh users for the Subversion product. "The conversion from Subversion to the high end version would take place later," said Portelli.

Speaking about the company's India plans, vice president Muthu Krishnan said, "We will be doubling our headcount soon. Currently our employee strength of 110."
