Mumbai:
WatchGuard Technologies Inc (Nasdaq: WGRD) today announced
the immediate availability of WatchGuard Gateway AntiVirus
for Email for the Firebox X line of security appliances.
In this application, a signature-based solution is combined
with WatchGuard's existing deep application inspection
capability to provide zero-day protection, shrinking the
window of vulnerability to a variety of new threats and
variants until signatures become available.
WatchGuard
has integrated an open source signature-based scanning
engine from ClamAV with the deep application inspection
capability of its 'intelligent layered security' (ILS)
architecture. The signature database, comprising more
than 22,000 signatures of the most active global virus
exploits, extends far beyond 'in the wild' viruses. The
deep application inspection capability examines traffic
for protocol anomalies to determine if the content is
malicious and blocks threats before they reach the anti-virus
engine, to avoid unnecessary processing overhead. If no
threat is detected, the data is passed to the anti-virus
engine where it is scanned against the signature database.
It is a comprehensive defence against worms, viruses and
blended threats, before they can enter the network.
New
and updated signatures are available via a high availability
server array at regular intervals determined by the customer.
WatchGuard Gateway AntiVirus for e-mail is priced using
a per-appliance licensing model, rather than per-user,
to keep costs down, enabling customers to deploy a single
solution to protect their entire network, even when new
users are added.
WatchGuard
Gateway AntiVirus for e-mail is available immediately
as a software license key upgrade to all Firebox X customers
